Our story

Team Steve was founded by Stephen Chase and his wife Wendy over 13 years ago. Stephen was diagnosed with brain cancer after suffering a seizure at work. He valiantly battled brain cancer for over 12 years, silently enduring two brain surgeries, years of chemo and several rounds of radiation. For years he maintained his job as a carpenter and lived each day with strength and grace. 

Stephen continued to inspire every person who knew him even on the tough days. He rode almost every year in the Closer To Free bike ride with little feeling in his right side, in pain and exhausted but NEVER complained. Steven volunteered for numerous experimental cancer trials in hopes of helping those who would fight this disease after him. His legacy will live on forever in not only his family, friends and supporters but also in the hearts of those who never had a chance to thank him for his unwavering commitment to cancer research. He ultimately lost his ability to walk,speak and eat but his beautiful smile never faded. 

On October 20, 2024 Stephen passed in the arms of his soulmate Wendy who never left his side. She devoted each and every day to surrounding Stephen with nothing but love, family and friends. Please help us honor Stephen’s fight and support those who continue to battle this horrible disease by donating to CTF. 100% of the proceeds raised will go directly to Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center.
